The Paterson Youth Photography Project

Registration Information

Registration for the Fall 2010 semester will take place from 10AM to 3PM at the Paterson YMCA, 28 Ward Street, Paterson, NJ, on a Saturday in late September or early October 2010. There is a $25 fee per child which covers the entire semester (ten classes). It is non-refundable after the first class and non-transferable.

Registration materials will be sent to recent YMCA students. For registration details, call the YMCA at 973-684-2320 and ask for Sherman Ricks who is in charge of "Silk City Arts", the Saturday morning youth arts program.

There are 12 slots available for PYPP students taking the Basic Photography course during the Fall 2010 semester. Each student will work on their own computer. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis. Instruction takes place in the YMCA's computer lab and during walking fieldtrips around the YMCA neighborhood.

The PYPP Basic Photography class will take place from 10:15-11:30 AM. Please note that class will begin at 10:15 sharp! (Parents who are unable to drop their children off on time should have them sign up for other classes that begin at 10:30.)

Students are encouraged to practice techniques taught during the previous week's lesson.

An Advanced Digital Processing course using Picasa 31 may be offered immediately after the Basic course depending on student experience and teacher recommendation. Picasa 3 is a free software package that may be downloaded to home computers.

Students do not need to have any previous knowledge of photography for the Basic course. PYPP loans each student a digital camera; it must be returned at the end of the semester.
